How Much Does Artificial Grass Cost in Riverside County?

By Nando and the Synthetic Grass Techs team · Updated · 3 min read

Price is usually the first question, and it should be. Here’s what artificial grass costs when we install it in Riverside County and the Inland Empire, what moves the price up or down, and how to get an exact number for your yard.

Most of our installations land between $8 and $12 per square foot, installed, for a complete job from prep and base to turf and infill. Your exact price comes from a free on-site measure.

Price examples by yard size

250 sq ft side yard or dog run$2,000 to $3,000

What’s included

A turf lawn is only as good as what’s under it. Here’s how we build every lawn. The two optional layers go in where a yard needs them:

What’s under every lawn we install
Cut-away of an artificial grass installation: eight layers from acrylic-coated sand on top down to the subgrade 87654321
  1. Round acrylic-coated sandThe top dressing. Rounded grains coated in acrylic reflect heat and help the blades stand up.
  2. Base infill sand + antimicrobial pet infill optionalInfill sand settles between the blades for weight and support. In pet areas we mix in antimicrobial pet infill.
  3. Synthetic grassTurf cut, seamed and fitted to your yard, secured at the edges with perimeter tacking and 6-inch perimeter spikes.
  4. Decomposed granite (DG) toppingA fine finish layer that gives the turf a smooth, even bed.
  5. Class II road base or aggregateThe structural base the whole installation sits on.
  6. Woven geo fabricSeparates the base from the soil underneath.
  7. Pest control wire mesh optionalKeeps gophers and other burrowing pests out.
  8. SubgradeThe native ground under the installation.

We prep the area, compact the base, lay and seam the turf, secure every edge with perimeter tacking and 6-inch perimeter spikes, and finish with acrylic-coated sand infill. See every step in our installation process.

What moves the price up or down

  • The turf you choose. Our lineup runs from budget-friendly to our top tier, which will include SGT Pro 131 with an organic backing derived from soybeans.
  • Prep and removal. Grass, rock and roots have to come out and be hauled away before the base goes in.
  • Base work. Slopes, low spots and drainage problems take more material and labor.
  • Access. Narrow side yards where everything is carried in by hand take longer than an open front yard.
  • Shape. Curves, cutouts and stepping stones mean more cuts and seams than a simple rectangle.
  • Extras. Antimicrobial pet infill, gopher wire, safety padding under play areas, borders and irrigation changes.
  • Size. Very small areas can cost more per square foot, because setup and haul-away don’t shrink with the yard.

What you save over time

A natural lawn keeps costing money: water, mowing, fertilizer and sprinkler repairs. A Southern California lawn uses roughly 42 gallons of water per square foot a year. Read artificial grass water savings to estimate yours.

Warranty

Our turf carries a 16-year manufacturer’s warranty, and we back our installation work with a 2-year workmanship warranty.

Ways to make it work for your budget

  • Pay over time. Financing is available through our pay over time option.
  • Do it in phases. Start with the backyard or dog run, add the front yard later.
  • Mix materials. Turf where you live and play, rock or planters where you don’t.
  • Install it yourself. Buy turf and installation materials in our online shop, by the square foot or by the 1,500 sq ft roll, with wholesale pricing.

Artificial grass cost questions

Is the measure really free?

Yes. We come out, measure, bring samples, and give you a price for your yard.

Is artificial grass cheaper than sod?

Sod costs less up front, but it needs water, mowing and care for as long as you have it. Turf costs more on day one and very little after that.
